On August 08, 1973 the Feast Day of St. Dominic, patron saint of the University of Sto. Tomas, sixteen young men of the university met and had their initiation rites to form the ALPHA KAPPA RHO Fraternity. The group was formed out of a desire to form a fraternity of their own, as members of other fraternities were trying to recruit them to join their ranks.

 

Lead by Jose “Boy” Chua, whose idea it was it to form their own fraternity, the following met on that day, Noli Manalo (Deceased), Roger Sarmiento, Teddy Aves, Philip Balangue, Tanny Bernabe, James Bracewell, Monchet Cabrera, Philip Diman, Renato “Ato” Go, Teddy De Lara, Arnel (Lim) Lorenzo, Vismark Quequep, Edwin Solano, Ronnie Leuterio and Gil Villegas. These 16 young men founded the ALPHA KAPPA RHO Fraternity or AKRHO.

 

In time, this small group developed into a strong force as they begun to recruit other students to join the newly formed fraternity. The popularity of the fraternity also grew and students from other universities begun to join the fraternity.

 

In 1975, the Alpha Kappa Rho Sorority began and the following are recognised as the Sorority Founders are namely: Girlie Tesoro, Joyce Gregorio, Alda Altiveros Bernabe, Marisa Cumuyog, JJ Aquino (Deceased), Irene Ileto, Grace Mendoza

 

In 1976, AKRHO merged with OMEGA Fraternity and Sorority (OFSI) of San Sebastian College and the ZETA UPSILON Fraternity of U.E. (University of the East) Recto.

 

Later, AKRHO Juniors and Community chapters were established and became part of AKP family. Thus AKRHO grew in numbers and expanded aggressively to other universities.
